About the Artist

Michele Fountain came to photography via her love of texture and colour. Drawn to industry, rural and urban decay and the hidden places in our environments, her work invites the viewer to find the extraordinary in the mundane. Michele is self-taught, working variously with a Panasonic Lumix G7 and an Olympus PEN Lite E-PL3 and very minimal, if any, post-production. The Road is her first solo exhibition, as part of the Yarra Ranges Regional Exhibitions program, focused on the towns of the Hume Highway. A lifelong roadtripper, she believes solo drives are the best way to travel.

Aside from photography, Michele works in mixed media, printmaking (linocut and drypoint) and sculpture. Under her Metafour Studio banner she produces handwoven art, fabric and soft furnishings, and under Cher Silver is a writer, poet, and performance and spoken word artist.

She has been a resident studio artist at the Burrinja Cultural Community Centre in Upwey, Victoria for the past two years. See Metafour Studio for studio visiting opportunities.
